This tool is to scratch the need to find exactly how far away some place is, based on how I want to get there. The main issue with distances from online directions is that it wants you to drive past the mall at 6pm, with no ragard for the traffic!
Since then, other things that I have found this useful for include:
- Measure size of my yard
- Measure sizes of some large buildings
- Calculate the width at the widest part of Lake Michigan
- Calculate the length of a path in countries where route calculation doesnt yet exist
